Logo Review
If you have read the below Logo Review guidelines:
University and Student Organizations
University entities and student organizations wishing to use the ECU marks must gain approval prior to producing the item or publication. The approval process will depend on the item. See below for more information.
Promotional Products, Apparel and Merchandise
Products that include an ECU mark, such as promotional items (key chains, mugs, etc.), apparel (shirts, hats, etc.) and other custom merchandise (stand up banners, wall murals, signs, etc.) must be produced by a licensed vendor and receive approval prior to production.
Effective January 1, 2024, the department and vendors will not submit these items through Logo Review. Instead, the licensed vendor that the department is working with to produce the product will submit the item through the Brand Manager 360 platform for review and approval prior to production. Licensed vendors will be familiar with this process. Any changes will be relayed to the vendor through that platform.
Only licensed vendors may produce items featuring university trademarks. A complete list of licensed manufacturers is available on the ECU Licensing website.
If you wish to have a manufacturer added to the list, please contact the Collegiate Licensing Company Inc. East Carolina University is required by law to control the use of its trademarks and control is maintained through allowing only officially licensed manufacturers to reproduce University trademarks.
Printed or Digital Publications
University entities, student organizations that wish to use ECU marks in deliverables for marketing, recruiting, development or general promotional or informational purposes on behalf of the university or a college, department, program, initiative, or research purposes within or supported by the university must follow ECU brand guidelines, and be submitted to Logo Review prior to distribution.
Examples of the types of deliverables required to flow through Logo Review include but are not limited to print and digital versions of newsletters, ads for traditional and social media, branded social media graphics (organic or paid), research study surveys and participant recruitment pieces, web graphics, pull-up banners, flyers, postcards, booklets, brochures, LCD screen graphics, distribution list emails and more.
For more detailed social media guidelines, please review the ECU Social Media Guidelines.
Other
Some items that include an ECU mark may not fall into one of the categories above. In this case, please email ECU Logo Review when you begin your design process to avoid any complications.

Logo Review Process
- Submit a Logo Review ticket. (One ticket per project. A project is defined as one design theme with one or more deliverable(s); for example, flyer, postcard, and poster.)
- Once artwork and Logo Review ticket is received, please allow 2 business days for a response to your request.
- You will receive notice that your ticket has been “approved as is” or that adjustments need to be made with suggested modifications included.
- Once adjustments have been made, please submit a new Logo Review ticket with the revised design(s) for review.
- Once you have received approval you may move forward with publication.
Note: Approvals are for one-time, specific use and do not cover future production of this or a similar item. Approvals are not “grandfathered in.”
Any approvals can be rescinded at the discretion of Creative Services, and changes to branding rules or policies will apply to items not yet produced. - If you have questions about the above process, please email ECU Logo Review.
